We currently have 10 well trained huskies that are willing to pull you along to see the wonderful county of Cumbria! These dogs are very affectionate and will lick you at every opportunity. We have both steady dogs for when you’re starting out and speedy dogs for the more experienced. They are perfect for you as they will take you slowly to show you the country or they will speed you along so fast your hand will be on the brake the whole way!
Your experience of dry-land mushing can be either as a passenger with the dogs under control of an experienced musher or self-driven after appropriate tuition.
Flying Solo – Single 2hr Session:
This is a stand alone session for you to get a feel for dry land mushing. This will award you with a Bronze level Musher Certificate. This session introduces you to learning to drive one or two huskies. We choose the huskies carefully to suit their new driver. Full tuition and one-to-one support throughout the session. Remember, the driver has the brakes so can control the speed at all times!
Flying Solo – Mushing Course:
You can book our Flying Solo Mushing Course either on a weekly basis tailored to suit you, or follow up the initial 2 hour session with a 2 day course. During these sessions you will learn to communicate and control a team of huskies. One or 2 people can participate in these sessions, after which, they will be flying solo, with supervision. Upon successful completion you will be awarded either our Horse and Husky Silver Musher Certificate or the Gold Musher Certificate!
Please contact Sonia for details of the bespoke courses with accommodation provided. A great mini-break with a difference.
Once you have achieved your Musher Certificate you will qualify to experience our half-day and two day special safaris.
This is to extend the husky experience for the musher who has been awarded our certificate and is judged competent to take a small team of dogs out on the trail. You will be accompanied by an experienced musher who will advise and support you.
Short Break Safari:
Once you have qualified and hold the Horse and Husky Musher Certificate, you can drive a team of huskies for a half-day safari through Cumbria’s stunning countryside.
Why not try our 2 day safari and fully experience the ultimate Husky Experience?
A wide variety of trails will be selected so you will experience forestry tracks and beach rides. You will have the opportunity to drive a variety of dogs from the steady to the sprinters of the pack, depending on your experience and skill. You will need to hold your Horse and Husky Musher certificate to book this superb safari. Accommodation and a basic breakfast is provided. Price £400 per person – or 2 sharing with accommodation just £350 each.
The Mushing Family Fun Deal:
Why not enjoy our Mushing Family Fun Deal for half a day?
Choose to use either one of our passenger rigs (Mush Mobile) and/or our self-drive wheeled rigs. All are available for your family. Each family member’s experience will be tailored to suit their needs.
During Fairs and Events:
A 30 minute introductory session with a short demonstration and a ride in the passenger rig will be available. The flying solo experience may be available subject to suitability of venue and tuition given. Such opportunities will be very closely supervised.
Please contact Sonia to discuss your requirements, for example shorter rides could be given to enable more people to experience mushing.
Dog Sledding in the Lake District Cumbria:
Why not have some fun with your dog and train them to be a sled-dog?
Bespoke sessions can be booked. Following an initial consultation and training session of 90 minutes for a cost of £40 you will experience a wonderful adventure and new partnership with your pet. Try it with Horse and Husky equipment before splashing out and buying your own. You may have more than one dog and wish to train them all. For the first experience it is best to work with one dog a time.
To further refine and improve your joint experience of mushing you could book further training sessions and may be able to run your dogs alongside members of our Horse and Husky pack. A great, fun way to exercise high-energy dogs.
Note that what we can achieve with your dog will depend on the strength and basic obedience of your dog.
Not suitable for small dogs. Dogs should be a minimum of 12 months old. For dogs aged between one year and 2½ years of age, the amount of ‘work-time’ will be restricted. All training will be based on positive reinforcement with no force used. The emphasis will be on your dog enjoying himself.
A Spectacular Children’s Party-Piece:
Why not have a party with a difference? We can bring the huskies to you or we can arrange a suitable location.
The programme would include meeting the dogs and a go at driving the huskies for you and your friends. Attendance at parties and events for a minimum of 2 hours. Younger children will be able to use our passenger rig.
Subject to the venue older children may be able to sample our flying solo rig but this will be under very close supervision. Travel charged at a rate of 50p per mile beyond a 5 mile radius of LA19.
These dogs are suitable to be handled by children, although we suggest that the minimum age for driving them is 7 years.
Children’s safety will of course be paramount whilst ensuring that they are having fun.
A full package can be offered to include sled dog tuition and flying solo experience possibly reaching the level of the safari depending on the length of you stay with us.
This could include your accommodation, a selection of holistic therapies and a range of other adventurous activities such as horse trail riding and mountain biking over some challenging Cumbrian countryside. Please contact Sonia to discuss your ideas.
